The Herbalista Free Clinic (aka The Herb Bus)…

is a mobile clinic offering free herbal care and basic first aid to underserved populations.  We are currently hubbed in Atlanta, but also travel the country offering pop-up clinics at gatherings and facilitating workshops where we teach the Herb Bus method.  We travel in Luna, a 1990 VW Westfalia camper van.

We are herbalists, not licensed medical doctors, and do not diagnose or prescribe.  Our visitors/patients understand that the herbs and other recommendations they receive are traditionally considered safe and assume all responsibility for decisions they make regarding their health.  We work WITH our patients and value an open, honest dialogue about their current concerns and health goals.  We do our best to help them achieve those goals.

In the Atlanta area, we have regular rounds at “herb bus stations” where we dock on a monthly basis. By offering our patients at these “stations” monthly follow-ups, we can partner with them in health and provide continuous support.  We currently service two stations, and hope to add more stops to our Atlanta route as support for the Herb Bus grows.

In a typical clinic, we see between 6-10 patients, depending on how many are new visitors (45 minutes each) and how many are there for follow-ups or refills (15 minutes – 30 minutes each).  The consults and all herbs dispensed are FREE.  While the Herb Bus is a labor of love, community support is vital to making this project a sustainable endeavor.

In 2013, we did several  tours in the Bus around the country, offering clinical care, education, and harvesting sweet, sweet herbs to stock our apothecary.  These trips highlighted the lack of this type of care in our country, and with that in mind, we are working to teach the Herb Bus method and hopefully nurturing the dreams of other herbalists to service their local communities.  We wrote the Herb Bus Service Manual in an attempt to demystify our work on the bus and offer it online as a free pdf.

Thanks to everyone who has supported this project herbally, inspirationally, creatively, organizationally, economically, logistically, and all the rest of it too!!

The Herb Bus is partnered with The Baraka Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization. All donations to the Herb Bus are tax deductible.  If you are interested in supporting the bus, please click here.

Viva la Herb Bus!
